What is Susan G. Komen? 

Susan G. Komen is the world’s largest nonprofit source of funding for the fight against breast cancer. Since 1982, the organization has invested nearly $3.6 billion in groundbreaking research, community health outreach, advocacy, and programs in more than 60 countries.  

These efforts have helped reduce deaths from breast cancer by 43% since 1989. For the 300,000 Americans who will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, Susan G. Komen shines a light of hope by continuing to find more discoveries, treatments, and advances in patient care.

Breast cancer is the second most common cancer among U.S. women, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Along with getting regular breast cancer screenings, some health and lifestyle changes can help to reduce your risk, including:

• Limiting your alcohol consumption 
• Being physically active 
• Talking to your doctor about your risk factors 

You can promote breast cancer awareness by getting the facts—and by encouraging friends and family to be proactive about breast health. Remember that early detection is important to catching breast cancer at a stage when the chances of survival are highest.
